Veins & Lesions

Discover your beauty

Sclerotherapy treatment involves the injection of a solution or foam into varicose veins, causing a reaction in the walls of the veins. This leads to hardening or “sclerosis” of the veins. Blood flow is then directed to healthier veins and the treated veins are eventually absorbed by the body.

Some veins that need to be treated are below the surface of the skin and cannot be injected safely without the aid of ultrasound imaging assistance.

Sclerotherapy is done in the office, it takes approximately 30 minutes and no anesthetic is required.

After care
  • Soon after the treatment you should walk for at least 30 minutes. A 10 minute walk immediately afterwards is advisable for patients who have an hour or more to travel.
  • Walk as much as possible, preferably at least 30 minutes per day for six weeks. Walking reduces the pressure in the superficial veins and reduces the risk of thrombophlebitis and deep vein thrombosis.
  • After treatment you can carry on with your usual activities.
  • Avoid hot tubs and saunas for 7 days.
  • You may experience slight aching/pain in the legs in the first few days after treatment. Do not specifically rest, but continue walking as usual. If you have severe continuous pain or swelling of the leg, please follow up with a doctor.
  • Leave your compression stockings on during waking hours for one week. It is not necessary to wear the stockings to bed.
  • Rubber gloves help to get the stockings over the heel and ankle. They also protect the stockings from fingernails.
  • Bring your compressing stockings along for each appointment.

Laser Treatment for Veins

Laser vein treatment is a great option for smaller spider veins or facial lesions. Fotona Nd: YAG or Cutera Nd:YAG laser treatments directs pulses of light energy into veins. The energy from the laser is absorbed by the blood in the vein, converted into heat, and the vein walls are subsequently destroyed. In comparison with other wavelengths, which mainly affect the surface layers of a lesion, Nd:YAG light also targets the underlying vascular feeding system, which is important for ensuring the long-term efficacy the treatment. This process is perfectly safe as other healthy veins supply blood to the treated area and the body’s immune system clears away the damaged vascular structure.

Laser Treatments of Warts, Fungus and Benign Lesions

Spot treatment with laser

ClearSteps is a revolutionary method for treating onychomycosis (toe nail fungus) in a quick and effective way with Fotona Dynamis Nd:YAG laser light. Laser light heats evenly throughout the depth of effected nail and skin tissue, effectively weakening and killing parasitic fungi, which have infected the nail.  The treatment is performed four times at one week intervals. ClearSteps Onychomycosis Treatment is the most effective and least invasive treatment of fungal nail infection. The treatment is extremely fast and easy to perform and has an unsurpassed treatment success rate compared to traditional methods. An important advantage of the ClearSteps treatment method is that no oral medications or chemicals are used. Therefore, there are no dangerous side effects as there are with conventional treatments.

Warts are small, benign growths caused by a viral infection of the skin or mucous membrane. The viruses that cause warts are members of the human papilloma virus (HPV) family.  Warts are contagious from person to person and from one area of the body to another on the same person. There is no one recommended method for eliminating warts.  The ND: Yag is another treatment option for removal of warts. Laser treatment is based on the principle of photo dermal or photomechanical destruction of the target tissue.  You may need 1-4 treatments spaced 2-4 weeks apart for optimal results.

At Dr. Brenna & Three Graces Medi Spa, the Fotona Dynamis Laser can be utilized to non-surgically remove benign lesions such as skin tags, actinic keratosis and seborrheic keratosis with a cosmetically pleasing result.
